Programmatic music is an idea that expresses ideas or images beyond music. Its differs from absolute or pure music or one that explores the aesthetics of the sonorous and the musical. Programmatic music is always instrumental. This gains popularity in the nineteenth century with Romanticism.
- Choose one of the next examples and do some research about the composer
Antonio Vivaldi was a 17th and 18th century composer who’s become one of the most renowned figures in European classical music. He was born on March 4, 1678, in Venice, Italy, Antonio Vivaldi was ordained as a priest though he instead chose to follow his passion for music. He composed more than 770 works, approximately 400 concerts and 46 operas. He is known for being the author of the violin concert series and The Four Seasons.
-Do you think that the composer conveys the small meaning in a good way? Why?
Because it has a calm rhythm. As it progresses, the melody increases the volume and is faster, making it seem like the dawn and the beginning of the day.
