GLOSSARY OF THE READING BOOK: THE CANTERVILLE GHOST

CHAPTERS 1-2


- Ambassador: representative sent by a country to a foreing country.
- Carriage: type of transport.
- Pray: religious act for God.
- Stain: a dirty mark in a place that is difficult to clear.
-Estate: large area of land in the countryside.
-"Stars and Stripes": name of the flag of USA
-Housekeeper: person employed to organise a house.
-Pray: ask a god for help.
-Still: quiet, silent.


CHAPTERS 3-4


- Remove: quit something
- Chains: metal rings connected together.
- Footsteps: each movement of your foot when you are walking
- Cupboard: a furniture for keep clothes
- Corridor: passage that connect the rooms
- Lit: something illuminated

CHAPTERS 5-6


- Recovered: when you get something again
-Revenge: vengeance
-Peashooter: object for throw small things at people.
-Oil : to lubricate something
-Pea: small green vegetables

CHAPTERS 7-8

Dagger: weapon similar to the sword but with a smaller size.
Sheet: piece of cloth used on the bed
Cords: strings
Stab: push a knife to a person
